Maija backs the vax call

Maija Vance finds it impossible to understand why people are refusing to get a Covid vaccination.

The former jockey, who suffered life-changing injuries in a race fall in September 2018, got her second vaccination on Super Saturday at Unichem Family Health Pharmacy in Cambridge Road.

“It blows my mind there are people who don’t want the vaccine. It makes me so mad.”

She only has one friend who doesn’t want the vaccination “and I don’t think she’s going to be my friend much longer.”

Vance, who was born in Sweden but grew up in New Zealand, is the daughter of former jockeys turned trainers Bob and Jenny Vance.

In September 2018 the 30-year-old suffered 13 rib fractures and broke her back in five places with the T8 vertebra crushing her spinal cord and leaving her with no feeling or movement from the waist down. She was told she would never walk again but is back riding horses and rides trackwork in Cambridge.
