Disabled ride car running

A ramp at the back of the new ride car allows wheelchair users to wheel up onto a platform to ride the train.

The Cambridge Model Engineering Society took its new disabled ride car out for its first outing last Sunday, giving members of the public with disabilities the chance to ride the train safely.

The ride car features a ramp at the back, allowing wheelchair users to wheel onto a platform accompanied by their caregiver if required.

Alternatively, they can be harnessed into a special chair at the front of the car, with room for their caregiver behind.

The society was grateful to local organisations for their support in building the car, which was put to good use at the Wordsworth St track.

The trains will run from 10am – 3pm at the Leamington Domain on the first and third Sunday of the month until November, weather permitting.

They will run every Sunday over summer.
